In the meantime, many different insurances for animals are offered. Which ones make sense and which ones do not, must always be decided individually. The insurances of the different insurances differ strongly in contribution and achievement. An insurance comparison is therefore worthwhile in any case.

Pet Liability Insurance

This insurance is offered for dogs and cats. Dog owners should definitely purchase it immediately after acquiring their dog.
Dogs are daily a lot with their human on public roads and therefore the risk is relatively high that they can also cause damage. Whether it is because the dog runs in front of a bicycle or car or knocks over a statue in the neighbor’s garden: this is a case for dog liability insurance. Since accidents involving property damage and personal injury can quickly accumulate high sums, you should insist on coverage of at least 5 million euros.

Attention: Some insurances exclude certain dog breeds (so-called list dogs or fighting dogs).

Incidentally, normal liability insurance does not cover damage caused by pets. Pet owner liability insurances are often offered in combination with a pet health insurance or a pet surgery insurance. Read the insurance conditions carefully in advance. Very cheap insurances often have a deductible or low benefits. An insurance comparison is therefore worthwhile in any case.

Pet Health Insurance

This insurance is also offered for dogs and cats. It covers many treatment costs at the vet, though not all. Many animal health insurance policies exclude, for example, vaccinations, castrations or stays in veterinary clinics. In addition, there is often an annual cap or a deductible.

Pet health insurance is usually relatively expensive, so you should do your research to see if it’s worth it. Keep in mind that older animals are often no longer accepted or you have to pay a significantly higher premium for them.

Pet Surgery Insurance

This insurance is also offered for dogs and cats. It covers the costs of medically necessary surgeries (castrations, for example, are thus usually excluded) performed under general anesthesia and their follow-up costs. Stitching a wound under local anesthesia is therefore not included. Stays in veterinary clinics are also usually not included.

However, since operations can quickly become very expensive even for animals, such insurance can still be worthwhile for dogs and cats. However, older animals are often no longer included or a significantly higher premium must be paid. Animal surgery insurance is often offered in combination with pet owner liability.
